Welcome to Rochdale Conservatives website covering the Rochdale Borough including Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale and Littleborough campaigning for change against years of liberal democrat and labour failure.

Victory for common sense over yellow lines plan

Bamford Conservatives have hailed the decision, in which the Lib-Dem run Council planned to impose double yellow lines on residents of Norden Road, a victory for common sense.

Bamford Conservative member IAN DUCKWORTH said "I'd like to thank Conservative Councillor Ann Metcalfe (Norden Ward) for speaking up for local residents at the Township Meeting, and Councillor Sharif (Chairman of Rochdale Township Action & Resources Committee) for letting residents have their say. However the present Lib-Dem run Council must stop its culture of making decisions behind closed doors, with little or no consultation with local people. No one wanted to admit to making this unpopular proposal and no wonder. In cases like this, local residents should be the first to know, not the last”.

Councillor JANE GARTSIDE commented that putting in double yellow lines would have reduced the value of the residents’ property and posed problems as to where they would park their cars, which also posed a personal safety element if they had had to park some distance away.
